As spiritual seekers, we need to look to spiritual teachers in terms of what we wish to learn from them and are ready to absorb. We may wish to gain intellectual knowledge of Buddhism, Dharma instruction about applying the teachings to life, pragmatic training in meditation or rituals. We may wish for spiritual growth in this lifetime, favorable rebirths, liberation, or enlightenment, or for the total self-transformation of tantra. Spiritual teachers need to consider honestly what they can offer to spiritual seekers.
