Kalachakra Guru-Yoga in Conjunction with
Six-Session Practice, Composed in a Facilitating Manner

(1985 Literal Translation)

(A Cluster of Fruit from an All-Embracing Wish-Granting Tree)

To the clear evolved and the master
   from whom I have received supreme empowerment,
To the preventive measures of inseparable method and awareness
   shown by them
And to the two divisions of the intent community who live by them,
I pure-heartedly go for safe direction.

From this time forth, all the way to my total purification and growth,
I expand my heart out to all others and to that purified growth.
I generate a pure resolve and rid myself of grasping for "me" and "mine."

I shall build up the beneficial habit of wishing that all limited beings
Be endowed with happiness, be parted from their problems,
Have the joy of living always in blissful awareness,
And the equanimity of regarding everyone as equal.

Within a state of the great sealing nature of fantasy-free clear light,
Before me on the broad pathway of the immortal divines,
Like a glittering multi-colored design of rainbows,
In the center of a billowing ocean of clouds
   of the Totally Excellent One's offerings,
On a throne of jewels held aloft by eight breath-taking lions,
On the face of an opened thousand-petaled water-born lotus
   delighting the mind,
On top of symbolic discs of a moon, a sun, a Rahu "growler"
  and Kalagni "fire-of-time" eclipsing planets,
As a total amalgam into one of as many infinite aggregate sources
   of safe direction as there are,
Stands my kind sublime teacher,
   inseparable from a great Kalachakra, Cycles of Time,
One who overcame and gained all.

With the lustrous hue of a sapphire, blazing with brilliance,
You have one face and two arms,
   holding a diamond-strong scepter and bell.
To symbolize the uncommon path of the mind that is a unity
   of method and    awareness,
Your manner is that of a union with Vishva-mata. Mother of Diversity,
Saffron in color, holding cleaver and skullcup.

With your two legs, right one red and outstretched
   with a dance on top of a Demonic Mara,
And left one white and bent on a Forceful Rudra,
You are elegant with hundreds of artistic moods.
Your body, adorned with jewelry inspiring awe,
Is like the vault of the heavens beautifully studded
   with clusters of stars,
Standing in the midst of an effulgence of five-colored stainless light.
With the three spots of your body having the form
   of letters begotten of light
And in the nature of the deities of the three diamond-strong,
You take sheer delight.

Emanated from the seed-syllable at your heart comes a Vajra-vega,
Diamond-Strong Strength, holding an assortment
   of terrifying weapons.
Hooked firmly by these, a host of sources of safe direction,
Living in infinite pure-land fields,
Become of an equal taste with you who are here to bond me close.
In this way, you take on a great nature of being
An amalgam of all sources of safe direction.

Respectfully I prostrate to you, sublime teacher,
Inseparable trio of enlightening bodies:
You are a corpus of great all-encompassing blissful awareness,
   primordially fantasy-free;
A corpus possessing five for full use,
   as the reflexive appearance of your deep awareness;
And a corpus of enlightening dancers emanated throughout
   the ocean of the wanderers' sphere.

Billowing masses of clouds of offerings – outer, inner and enigmatic -
Both actually arrayed and created from the play
   of my absorbed concentration,
And six pair of slender-bodied, delightful bestowers of bliss
With lotus-hands stunningly beautiful with gifts that are worthy to offer -
Such common and uncommon presents as these, as well as my body,
Whatever I enjoy and the bountiful store of my constructive acts,
I offer to you, with a mind unattached, undaunted and clear
    about the three circles involved,
O my bountiful field, my kind sublime teacher, that I might please you.

Every negative act and downfall I have committed
   or caused others to do
Due to the wild horse of my mind, untamed from beginningless time,
Being drunk with the spirits of the reckless three attitudes of poison,
And especially such things as disturbing my spiritual master's mind,
Breaking with what he or she has enlighteningly said, and so on,
Acting counter to the close-bonding practices of the five families'
   collective and individual traits,
Not safeguarding correctly the twenty-five types of tamed
   and involved behavior and so forth,
Whatever negative actions I have ever done, I openly admit -
With a strong mind of regret and the promise
   not to repeat them again -
That they were all wrong.

I rejoice in the ocean of my own and others' well-done deeds
That creates thousands of bubbles of delightful results.
I request you to let a monsoon rain fall
   of preventive measures for three vehicles of mind,
In accordance with the thoughts and tempers of modest,
   middling and supreme disciples needing to be tamed.
Please remain for hundreds of eons,
   undeclining, unchanging and stable,
In a corpus of enlightening coarse forms that can appear
   to those who see from this side.
I dedicate my bountiful store of constructive acts,
   as exemplified by this,
As the cause for my quickly attaining the highest state of unity
   as a Cycles of Time.

From this time forth, all the way to my total purification and growth,
I expand my heart out to all others and to that purified growth.
I generate a pure resolve and rid myself of grasping for "me" and "mine."

I shall actualize, for the sake of the three bountiful stores,
The far-reaching attitudes of giving, ethical discipline, tolerance,
Positive enthusiasm, mental stability, discriminating awareness,
Skill in methods, aspiring prayer, strength and deep awareness.

I shall build up the beneficial habit of wishing that all limited beings
Be endowed with happiness, be parted from their problems,
Have the joy of living always in blissful awareness,
And the equanimity of regarding everyone as equal.

I shall beckon them well with the wave of my arm of giving
And then, having spoken to them with pleasing words,
Make them cheerful with meaningful behavior
And implant them with the great advice by acting accordingly.

I shall rid myself of the ten destructive acts:
The three types of impulsive physical actions,
Together with the four types of speech,
And the three types of impulsive acts of the mind.

I shall rid myself of the five obscurations:
Regret, bewilderment, sleepiness,
Flightiness of mind and indecision:
They obscure the three trainings.

I shall rid myself of infatuated attachment, deep hostility,
Closed-minded ignorance and pride –
The four disturbing attitudes that have been
At the root of my compulsive existence.

I shall rid myself of the confusion of my sensory desires,
The confusion of my compulsive existence,
The confusion of my unawareness,
And the confusion of my outlooks
The four confusions that cause my uncontrollably recurring existence.

A total absence, lack of a sign,
Lack of a hope and lack of an affecting action ahead –
Through these four gateways to full liberation,
I shall actualize total purification and growth.

O my kind sublime teacher, amalgam of the three sources of direction,
You, who when committed to with my whole heart,
   are a wish-granting source
From which flows the milk of all constructive and excellent wishes,
Beyond compulsive existence and serenely-stilled apathy –
I make you requests: bestow on my mind-stream inspiring strength.

OM A: GURU VAJRA-DHARA VAGINDRA SUMATI SHASANA-DHARA SAMUDRA SHRI-BHADRA SARVA SIDDHI HUM HUM [many times.]

I request you, sublime teacher, Cycles of Time,
To fully confer the empowerments on me.
Inspire me to purify away the obscurations of the four family-traits
And to achieve the four enlightening corpuses.

Emanated forth from your heart, the empowering deities –
Namely the blissfully transformed fathers and mothers,
As well as the circle of your symbolic world –
Confer the water, crown, ear-tassel, scepter and bell,
The tamed and involved behavior, name
   and subsequent permission empowerments,
And then supremely confer the two sets
   of higher and highest four empowerments
And the empowerments of the diamond-strong master.

By means of this, the energy-channels and the winds of my body
   become flexible and fit.
Empowered to build up the beneficial habits
   of the two stages of practice,
I gain the fortune to fully deplete the twenty-one thousand
   six hundred impulsive energy-winds
Plus every bit of corporeal matter of my body,
And to manifest in this very lifetime the highest state
   of a Cycles of Time possessing seven.

Having made my requests with heartfelt respect to you,
Sublime teacher, great holder of the diamond-strong,
Ruler who is a complete amalgam of infinite sources of safe direction,
I request you: bestow on my mind-stream inspiring strength.

By the force of having been requested by my strong plaintive yearning,
My root sublime teacher, Great Cycles of Time,
Come to grace the crown of my head.
By happily dissolving into me, we become of equal taste.

All phenomena – causes, effects, natures and actions –
Like an illusion or a dream, are utterly devoid, from the start,
Of existing by means of an essential nature.

Within a state of this total absence, like a surfacing bubble,
Comes a water-born lotus with outspread petals
And, on the corolla of which, are stacked a moon, a sun
And a "growler" and "fire-of-time" eclipsing planets.

On top of these, in the nature of my white and red sources,
Are a moon and a sun, the surfaces of which are beautified with
Garlands of vowels and consonants in the nature
   of the marks and exemplary features,
And in the center of which are the syllables HUM and HI
   as my energy-wind and mind.

These mix into one in the form of a syllable HAM,
From which I transform and arise as a Cycles of Time,
With the lustrous hue of a sapphire, blazing with brilliance,
With four faces and twenty-four arms,
The first two embracing my motherly partner
While holding a diamond-strong scepter and bell
To symbolize my supreme and unchanging
   diamond-strong blissful awareness
And the reality of a total absence, fantasy-free by nature.

My remaining lotus-hands on the right and the left are arrayed
With my hand-insignia: a cleaver, a shield and so forth.
With my two legs, right one red and outstretched
    with a dance on top on a Demonic One,
And left one white and bent on a Forceful One,
I am elegant with hundreds of artistic moods.
My body, adorned with copious pieces of jewelry,
Is like the vault of the heavens beautifully studded with stars,
Standing in the midst of an effulgence of five-colored stainless light.

Facing me who have overcame and gained all
Is a Mother of Diversity, saffron in color, four faces, eight arms,
Holding a variety of hand-insignia like a cleaver, a skullcup and so on.
With the stance of her left leg outstretched, she embraces me
    who have overcome and gained all.
We are encircled by eight ladies with powerful abilities
On the auspicious number of petals in the cardinal
   and intermediate directions.

Standing magnificently like this, as the principal figure,
I emit from my heart a Diamond-Strong Strength,
Holding an assortment of terrifying weapons,
With which he hooks back in a host of sources of safe direction
living in infinite pure-land fields.
They become of an equal taste with the ones who are here
   to bond me close.

The empowering deities confer the empowerments.
As the principal one, along with my circle, we all become sealed
With the ruling figures of our families.

The perimeters around the seed-syllables at the hearts of myself,
   the principal figure, and of my circle,
Are ringed with a garland of our own individual syllables
   to protect the mind.
From these are emanated a host of deities
   of my symbolic round world,
Who do what is of meaningful benefit for wandering beings
And, once again, gather back in
And dissolve into the seed-syllables at our hearts.

I prostrate to you with an identity-nature
Of a total absence and a compassionate, sympathetic heart,
You who neither take birth in the three planes of compulsive existence
   nor perish away,
You whose enlightening corpus has as one
A way of knowing and what is known,
O all-around perfect Cycles of Time.

I bow to you, O Cycles of Time, who having rid yourself of such matters
As being absorbed in a balanced union of vowels strung from A
   and consonants from KA,
And the syllables HUM and PHAT,
Have an enlightening body, born from what is without any change.

I bow to you, Great Sealing Lady,
With the nature of a magic-mirror image,
Beyond an actual nature of atoms,
O lady possessing the supreme of all aspects.

I bow to you, O Mother of Diversity,
Lady giving birth to all clear and evolved;
Having rid yourself of birth and disintegration,
You possess the behavior of the totally excellent.

The ladies with powerful abilities, as well as our seats,
Melt into light and dissolve into me.

I, as well, melt into light and within a non-objectifying state
   of a total absence,
I arise once more in the aspect of a Great Cycles of Time
   with one face and two arms.

Just as those in the caste of able ones, including Surya,
Attained discriminating deep awareness from this,
So may all limited beings dwelling in the three planes
   of compulsive existence
Become like them through the kindness of Cycles of Time.

Just as the diamond-strength of my enlightening mind shall remain
In infinite lands for the sake of liberating limited beings,
May these limited beings themselves, by the force of Cycles of Time,
Remain among those in the three planes of compulsive existence.

May those persons who, through demonic friends,
Always fall into the darkness of untruth
And follow degenerating paths of the mind,
Attain this path of the mind and, in not too long,
Arrive at the house of the diamond-strong gem.

May the spiritual heroes expanding their hearts
And dwelling above in the demonic ones' direction,
Totally terrifying the would-be divine;
And the wrathful kings and queens dwelling either in or parted from
The main directions in the perishably based human world;
And also the powerful hooded ones beneath the earth who,
When their time comes, bind up hordes of evil spirits
    and everything destructive –
May they all, each at their individual times
   during the day and the night,
Protect the unaware world from all such things.

Disturbing my sublime teacher's mind,
Breaking with what he or she has enlighteningly said,
Emitting my seminal force,
Holding the total absence in the themes and mind-protection
as having a difference in quality and belittling one,
Having a pretentious loving concern,
Getting rid of unchanging blissful awareness,
And criticizing those integrated with the real
Are the collection of what become a root downfall.

Damaging a life,
Telling a lie,
Taking what was not given to me,
Engaging in sexual misconduct,
And drinking alcohol are the five negative acts.

Gambling, playing with dice or on a gridded board,
Eating meat when it is improper,
Saying whatever comes to mind,
Putting out offerings for my father's or mother's ancestors,
And sacrificing livestock to make a blood-offering
Are the five offshoot negative acts.

Killing cattle, children, women, men,
And demolishing a basis that represents
an enlightening body, speech or mind
Are the five killings.

Being disrespectful to the clear evolved
   or the preventive measures,
Being spiteful toward friends, my master,
   those intent on a positive goal,
And deceiving those who trust me
Are the five contentious acts.

Being attached to sight, sounds,
Smells, tastes, and tactile sensations
Are the five longing desires.

All of these are dealt with
In the twenty-five types of tamed and involved behavior.
I shall safeguard correctly and well against them
And against the sets of root downfalls
   and likewise the faulty acts,
As spoken of in the Everlasting Stream of Cycles of Time.

By the force of the vastly expanding ocean
Of my bountiful store of constructive potential,
Which has come from continuously gathering
   into the lake of my mind
A stainless stream of water of building up beneficial habits,
  repeating syllables and making offerings,
Which flows from the snow mountain
   of my pure and exceptional resolve like this,
Combined furthermore by my mind into one with my entire store
   of constructive potential over the three times,
May I be cared for, in life after life, by spiritual masters
Of supreme vehicle of mind, holy guiding lights.

By learning from the guidelines they happily impart
The manner of what has been gathered into the measures
   for the three vehicles of the mind,
And putting their meaningful points into practice,
May I ripen my mind-stream with the paths of the mind
   that are taken in common.

By receiving the seven purifying empowerments, may I soundly set
The powerful abilities of seven levels of mind,
Wash away seven stains, such as those of my elemental sources
   and so on,
And gain the power to actualize the integrating practice of the first stage
   and the common actual attainments.

By the four supreme empowerments with a perishable basis
   and a basis beyond perish,
May I set seeds for four enlightening corpuses,
   the four diamond-strong,
And gain the power to listen about, explain
   and build up as a beneficial habit
The four branches of approximating and actualizing the second stage.

May I sit majestically in a supreme palace, exquisite beyond measure,
   of a diamond-strong vehicle of mind,
With a footstool of undeclined bonds and vows,
On a throne of four purifying empowerments,
As one with a wheel of authority over the two stages' measures.

Through cleansing out, then purifying myself for an enlightening body
And also speech, mind and deep awareness,
And through the integrating practices of building up habits
In terms of the six families' figures and then on my six limbs,
And then with a forceful blaze of lights from diamond-strong scepters
Arranged at their individual places on my body,
May I burn away demonic forces and interferers.

From generating in the middle of the sphere of space four element discs,
Then combining them into one,
May I actualize a diamond-strong fence with five layers of thickness,
A three-layered one, a towering mansion, as well as the seats.

With stable absorbed concentration on myself in the center of these
As an all-around perfect Vajra-vega, Diamond-Strong Strength,
Powerful lord of the wrathful ones,
Then by emanating out through all of my orifice-gateways
A host of the sixty spiritual guardians,
May I annihilate outer and inner demonic forces and interferers.

By realizing a bountiful field through the actions of emanating forth
And gathering back in, pervading the entire sphere of space,
Then building up as preparation bountiful stores
   in accord with the ritual procedures,
May I fully complete great waves of bountiful stores.

Having accustomed myself, at the end of my six elements'
   dissolving like the stages of death,
To the self-esteem of a corpus that encompasses all,
May I reach the endpoint of absorbed concentration
   on the four gateways to total liberation,
Which brings ahead, in the very moment,
   total purification and growth.

By building up as a beneficial habit space, wind, fire,
   water, earth and a core mountain,
May I realize the abiding nature of a diamond-strong body
With circles of channels and so on at my crown, forehead,
Throat, heart, navel and pubic region.

By building up well as a beneficial habit
   being on top of a lotus, moon, sun
And a "growler" and "fire-of-time" eclipsing planets,
Together there with a diamond-strong tent,
May I block the hosts of winds of my "savoring" right
   and "lolling" left channels
Into my central one "having a conch,"
Through the supreme integrating practice of the diamond-strong.

By the force of building up as a beneficial habit
   a palace within the diamond-strong tent,
Exquisite beyond measure, having the light of stainless gems,
May the field where I reach my fullest potential be purified fully
And the supporting basis of my body be obscuration-free.

By building up as a beneficial habit a moon and a sun
   with vowels and consonants
And two syllables of wind and mind all combining into one
   as a syllable HAM,
May I develop great blissful awareness from my white and red sources
And subtle wind and mind being gathered together
   in my central channel.

By the force of building up as a beneficial habit
   an enlightening body, from this,
Of a Cycles of Time, possessing the supreme of all aspects,
Having a self-nature of great blissful awareness
   and complete in all parts,
Together with my lady of awareness and the deities of my circle
   of great blissful awareness,
May these become the causes to develop the supreme complete stages
Of a greatly sealing devoid-form and its being filled
With the taste of an unchanging, co-arising blissful awareness,
Which directly derive respectively from the seals
   with an aspect and lacking in one.

By building up as a beneficial habit the approximating branch,
Or the supreme victorious symbolic world, that brings ahead,
Through its five aspects, purification and growth, and in which,
Out of the seeds from myself, father and mother,
   absorbed in a balanced union,
The supreme circle of the complete deities is generated in the womb
And then settles soundly with each at their own spots,
May I, through cleansing my aggregate factors and elemental sources,
Cognitive sensors and their objects,
   and organs of action and their activities,
Develop the supreme insights of the paths of the mind.

By building up as a beneficial habit the nearly actualizing branch,
Or supreme victorious actions, with its purification and growth
   through twenty aspects –
Namely the five arousings, by tunes of the divine maidens'
   melodious songs,
Of myself as the Diamond-Strong Possessor
   who overcame and gained all,
Together with my ladies of awareness standing on the lotus
   of my circle of great blissful awareness
Where, through the force of having melted with the fires
   of the "inner fiery lass" at my navel,
We had taken the form of drops of great blissful awareness;
And likewise the five arisings; the five wrathful ones;
And their hooking in, merging, binding, pleasing
   and making of equal taste
With the circle of those to bond me close, which also make five –
And also with its conferral of empowerment, application of seals
And mindfulness of the purifications,
   may I manifest their significance.

May I manifest the supreme actualizing branch,
    or the integrating practice of the drop,
With what represents well the four joyful awarenesses
   in emerging order,
Which come from consecrating our private place and space,
Absorbing in a balanced union, and then,
Roused by my downward voiding energy-wind,
The flames of my "inner fiery lass" blazing upwards
through the path of my central "shaken-off" channel
So that the coursing of my right and left energy-winds
   is stopped
And my expanding heart that melts from the HAM
At the crown of my head descends in stages.

May I reach the endpoint of the greatly actualized branch,
Or the integrating practice of the subtle,
   with its four joyful awarenesses
That stabilize from below, rising upwards once more
   in the same order in which they came;
And also of the purification ahead of a web of emanated illusions.

In short, may I reach the endpoint of my efforts
To build up in four sessions the beneficial habits
Of the supreme generation stage – the waters to cleanse me
   of making appearances of the ordinary
   and clinging to what they imply –
The pathway of mind that ripens to give rise
   to the complete stage's being totally complete
And which purifies the outer and inner bases for purification.

By exerting myself, in addition, in reciting repetitions of syllables,
Making offerings to be burned
   and presenting the offerings that honor,
May I make infinite wanderers ripe, through being unimpeded
In actualizing the actual attainment of the ultimate attainment,
To abide in a Realm Beneath Nothing.

May I accustom myself to the six-branch practice:
The integrating practices constructive for the start –
Both individual collecting and mental stability;
Those constructive for the middle –
The pathways of mind of breath-control and holding;
And those constructive for the end –
Subsequent mindfulness and absorbed concentration.

With a manner of looking in which my eyes are half-closed
And turned up so that I feel they are penetrating into
The very center of the upper end of my "shaken-off" channel
   by the corner of my eyes,
May I fixate my mind single-pointedly at this spot,
Without mental dullness or flightiness of mind.

As a nondeceptive sign that, from this, the host of the winds
In my "savoring" right and "lolling" left channels
Has gathered into this spot in my "shaken-off" channel,
May I manifest the four night signs that are like smoke, a mirage,
Luminous sparks in the sky and a butter-lamp flame.

By building up well as a beneficial habit doing once more as before,
With its manner of looking at the space that is free
   of water-holding clouds,
May I complete these with the six (day) signs of further blazing,
Then a moon, a sun, a "growler" eclipsing planet, lightning and a drop.

Through mental stability with which the devoid-forms
Gather in stages at the spot of my enlightening-body drop,
And which is focused single-pointedly on the forms
   for as long as I wish,
May this induce a blissful sense of physical and mental fitness.

From the force of accustoming myself single-pointedly
With these two integrating practices, which actualize
   the devoid-forms like this
And make stable what has been actualized,
May I achieve the power of my words coming true
And also of the five types of advanced awareness.

By accustoming myself to the breath-control
   of diamond-strong repetition
   that spontaneously accomplishes all,
In which my winds pass through the pathway of my "growler" channel
And are indivisible from the mind-protecting syllables,
And to the breath-control of having a vase,
In which my upper and lower winds are stopped at my navel,
May I have arise distinguished signs of the hosts of my winds entering,
Without an exception, into the center of my emanation circle of channels
And abiding there a little, and thus manifest the melodious sounds
Of being praised by those expanding their hearts.

Through the integrating practice of holding my mind immobile and firm
In the center of my pair of life and downward energy-winds
Mixed into one at the hubs of my six circles of channels,
May I, at the end of enhancing the four joyful awarenesses
That fall from above and that stabilize from below,
Arise in a devoid-form enlightening body to the face of my mind,
And cause the hordes of demonic forces of untimely death to decline.

Having well-attained the force of control over the forms and breaths,
   whatever I might wish,
May I then, from a great co-arising blissful awareness,
Induced by the blazing once more of the flames of my "inner fiery lass,"
Actually arise in the enlightening body of a devoid-form
   father and mother, joined together in union,
And diffuse light rays of assorted colors out of the holes
   of the pores of my skin.

Joined together in union with a devoid-form
   great sealing partner like this,
May I build up the beneficial habit
   of a great unchanging blissful awareness,
Well-induced by this seal's own power,
Being joined with a total absence of the fantasized.

By the force of stacking my white and red sources
To the count of twenty-one thousand six hundred
Up and down through the pathway of my "shaken-off" channel,
May I have the sources of my corporeal matter be consumed
   like iron by mercury.

With twenty-one thousand six hundred moments
Of unchanging great blissful awareness that realize a total absence,
May I stop my impulsive energy-winds of that same number
And quickly purify myself of the propensities for the obscurations
And thus attain the enlightening corpuses of a triumphant one.

May I actualize in ease, without hindrance,
These points to which I aspire like this,
And thus become a supreme ship-captain
   for freeing all wandering beings,
Through this supreme path of the mind,
   to the triumphant ones' supreme jewel-isle.

In short, through whatever bountiful store of noble,
   constructive potential
I have built up through acts such as this as example,
May I quickly be born in Shambhala, the Treasury of Gems,
And reach the endpoint of the stages of this peerless path.
