Special Appeal from Dr. Berzin on Our Tenth Anniversary Online

Buddha said, “A bucket is filled not by the first drop or the last drop, but by the build-up of all the drops.” To reach people in all corners of the world in multiple languages is a vast and lofty aim. But when our message offers the keys for inner peace and social harmony, we gain the courage and energy to soar to this goal. In 2011 alone, we have reached over a million visitors online in 12 languages in 222 countries and territories with over 2750 articles and over 825 audio files.

We have accomplished so much and I deeply appreciate how much support you have given in the past despite the difficult economic times. But just think how much more could be done if 1% of you made a monthly donation of $10 or 10 €! With our current budget, we presently employ 23 part-time workers in all our departments, but this is not enough. Most of the 80 or so volunteers come and go.

I just turned 67 and 70% of my manuscripts still remain unpublished. With your help, I could be freed from my almost full-time secretarial, administrative and fundraising duties. That way I can share more of my knowledge, experience and insights to produce more articles in English and offer so much more.

With your support, we could hire several full-time assistants to help me with my work, several full-time English language editors and copyeditors, more technical staff to maintain and expand our computer system, and more translators and editors to further our work in the other eleven current languages of the website, three more in the works, and four more planned. We could even have my handwritten summaries of 1200 books and articles on Buddhism and Central Asian history transcribed and edited.

In honor of our 10th anniversary online, we are so grateful for the new and generous matching funds grant from the Omidyar Global Fund of the Hawai‘i Community Foundation.
